April Meeting The April meeting will be at my home in Carrolwood Village. It has been quite awhile since I hosted a meeting and just about everything has changed except my address. I once had Merlin speakers that are now residing at the home of a fellow member. Actually so is my Sony projector and the Krell amplification I used to have. In general my systems have actually gotten much simpler. I do have a few systems but that is mostly the result of having teenagers at home. However, I do have two systems that they let me use from time to time. My living room (also known as either the pool hall or the theatre) uses a Sony LCD projector for movies and TV. The amplification is by Cary and the speakers are a custom design by our own Harley Day. My home office also has custom speakers built by the team of Day & Maher but these are currently being powered by a Panasonic digital receiver. Gone are my days of tube systems but they may be on their way back. I was just talking with Dennis Had (Cary) about the possibility of a tube preamplifier. -Jim President's Corner The March meeting proved to be very interesting, thanks to the combined efforts of Mike Knapp, and our host, Mike's good friend, Kevin Holt, Kevin welcomed us into his home, brave soul that he is, and we were treated to a slightly unusual meeting. First, we listened to Kevin's very fine audio system; then, Kevin entertained us with his very distinctive piano playing, and singing. He is obviously a fan of American music, from blues and jazz, to Tom Waits and John Hiatt, but he has a style all his own for his performing. I wish we had photos of the meeting but our most highly educated, and second smartest, member forgot the memory card for his camera. Many thanks to Kevin and Mike for a truly enjoyable evening. For April, we venture to the uncharted territory of the legendary home and pool hall of Jim Maher, our esteemed newsletter editor. Word is that a great deal of remodeling of his home, as well as his audio systems (count them all!), has been ongoing for months, ably assisted by Harley Day, etal. (Harley is probably thinking, "Oh, I'm the assistant, am I,' as he reads this, but that's Jim's story, and he's sticking to it). There are two events of note: the Florida Orchestra will be performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony either within a the next few months, or the next year (we'll find out and let you know the date), and it sounds like the kind of event we may want to attend as a group. As mentioned before, there is a new Indian restaurant in Clearwater; there wasn't much support for going there for the executive meeting, so we're going to try to arrange to go there on a different night; anyone who is interested is welcome to come. We often have a contribution from someone in addition to me, but not this time; let's please have some input from some of you on any topic (preferably audio-related) of your choice-your favorite CDs, or a review of a piece of audio gear, etc. There have been many new faces at our recent meetings, which is great to see; let's everyone keep up the effort.
